Many mechanical displays appear to advance in small rapid steps, while some quartz or electronic watches can produce smoother or less familiar motion. Some watches have no visible seconds hand. Use the reference, manual, service record, movement marking where legitimately documented, or professional identification.
Timekeeping and owner expectations
Quartz watches often regulate time differently from mechanical watches, but no page can assign one accuracy figure to an entire category. Caliber, age, temperature, state of energy, position, condition, magnetic exposure, complications, and intended standard can influence observed behavior.
For a useful comparison, ask how performance is specified for the exact reference, how the watch will be used, and what service support exists. Mechanical character does not guarantee poor accuracy, and quartz construction does not guarantee immunity from faults.

Movement type alone does not determine durability, water resistance, value, craftsmanship, or suitability for sport or travel. Those qualities depend on the complete watch and current condition.
