What “Water Resistant” really means!!

The first thought that comes to mind when one sees the words Water Resistant is that their watch is actually water proof. However, that isn’t always the case.

Typically, watches are graded on their level of water resistance, starting at a depth rating of 10 meters going all the way up to 300+ meters. What most people don’t know, however, is that unless your watch is rated at a depth resistance above 50 meters (5 atmospheres) it is recommended for the well being of the watch that it is not taken swimming.

This means even if your watch appears to be water resistant up to depths of 50 meters, you really shouldn’t be wearing it while in the pool swimming, or off the boat snorkeling.

So, next time you see the words water resistant and want to take your watch to the beach, think again. Just because the words water resistant appear on the watch, your watch may not actually be “water proof”
